The Turks Are Coming

We have just received the great news that the Turkish Stars F5 aerobatic team of the Turkish Air Force will be making the Waddington Air Show their only appearance in the UK this year. This will be the first time they have ever visited us and we are very excited to have them here. We can also announce that the Royal New Zealand Air Force will be returning with the fantastic display of the Boeing 757. For those of you who have never seen a large aircraft put through its paces this is one display not to be missed.

We have just had confirmation of the Royal Naval flying participation in this year’s show. They will be appearing in greater numbers than for some years. Expect to be thrilled by the Merlin, the Lynx, a pair of Jetstreams and the appearance of the Royal Naval Historical Flight. This is an amazing variety of Naval aviation and is one not to be missed.

You will have noted the change of aircraft on the home page from the F-111 to the Czech Air Force Gripen. It is with great regret that we have to announce that the F-111 from the Royal Australian Air Force will not be appearing at the show. We had approached the RAAF with a proposal to bring the F-111 on a farewell tour of the UK prior to its retirement from service later this year. We had a favourable response and we were just waiting for the final approval. Unfortunately, the aircraft suffered a major problem whilst attending the Singapore Air Show earlier this year and the fleet is now grounded. We have been informed by the RAAF that, reluctantly, they will not now be able to appear here at the show. It is disappointing, but we are still in negotiations with a number of other Air Forces and we hope to have news of more great flying displays in the near future. Do keep a close eye on the website for further great additions to the show.

  2. Not much you can do about the F-111′s. would love to see a B1 or 52 attend. Maybe a flying display from the Raf showing the transition of jets from the 50′s to todays fighters etc.

Look forward to any new developments, your more than making up for any problems that people may have had with last year

  8. The Turkish Stars, that is great news. I love the chance to see any foreign display teams over here. Last year Patrouille de France and the Polish team made the day for me. Plus the Fleet Air Arm lending their support and showing the RAF how to do it!
Still got my fingers crossed for the Blue Angels, (but they are getting a cramp)
Cheers Waddington, looking forward to it!

ps. whats up with the Dutch F-16? saw it at Culdrose a few years ago, awesome display! Come on Klu, that new colour scheme needs shoeing off!!

  12. Just one comment if I may,I attended last years show as i do every year but what a let down with the Vulcan Bomber not flying.

A lot of tickets would have been bought on the pretense of seeing it fly, but how disapointing the crowds were told that due to a paperwork bungle with the Vulcan operators that the CAA grounded the jet.

They had 12 months to get that in order you could not make it up?

Lets hope there wont be a repeat of this fiasco, anybody else feel the same?

  13. Looking good. Shame the Hind isn’t flying. Now if only a few more yanks were there, A-10, F-15 etc

Anyway I finally decided to get my tickets and seat for the grandstand booked.

Now lets hope they get the traffic issues sorted out after last years debacle and get the Vulcan guys to get their paperwork sorted. After all they have had a year to get ready….

  14. Just noticed that the Indian air force are in France on exercise this month. any chance of getting them to hang on for a week and come to waddington with their su30s at least on static. i know its a long shot but i like to dream.

Posted by MICHAEL BYRNE | June 1, 2010, 9:31 am
  15. Keep dreaming!

Although I see that a pair of Italian F-16s may be there on the static line. Showing my ignorance but I hadn’t even realised the Italians had any F-16s….

  16. Interesting to see the Turks & their F5s, but a very disappointing lack of things USA.
The B1 with it’s rapid/slow & dirty/OMG!!!!! flypasts or take off with full reheat is a joy to behold.
Maybe Lakenheath will one day return?

  17. don’t count on the Vulcan being there this year :(

    Posted by Steve | June 17, 2010, 2:45 pm
    • Probably be a riot if its a no show/no fly once again

      Posted by Tony | June 17, 2010, 10:58 pm
      • I don’t see why there should be – it has been made public for 2-3 weeks that they are still working on her.

I agree it will be disappointing if she doesn’t make it but she also missed Cosford too as well as Kemble

  18. and for people who booked tickets more than two weeks ago based on the advertised programme or those who don’t know to check the Vulcan to the Skies Website (which by the way doesn’t advertise the potential no fly status that well)? How will they feel. Again. Third year in a row.

  19. Although it’s always nice to see the Vulcan fly it’s “modern” display just doesn’t have the same number of ear breaking
power climbs (ie only 1 at the end of the display) as in days gone bye. I can understand the reasons why it’s flown alot more delicately these days of course, but it’s always nice when it sets off all the car alarms :-) . Now the B1 Lancer that is impressive! Wish that was at the display.
